Feeding in from the battery: what to consider

Feeding power from the battery into the grid can significantly increase your feed-in revenue. However, there are a few things to consider regarding grey power, which are summarized in this article.

Function description for feeding in from the battery: Intelligent feed-in with neoom Ai

For this article it is important to understand the term "grey power":

Grey power occurs when a storage system feeds energy back into the public grid whose origin cannot be clearly traced. This can happen with your solar storage system if you charge the battery not only from your PV system but also from the grid. When feeding from the battery into the grid, it is then no longer possible to tell where the power originally came from, which is why it is called grey power when fed into the grid.

Subsidized feed-in contracts require that you only feed green power into the grid.
In Germany these are EEG feed-in contracts and subsidized direct marketing.
In Austria these are OeMAG feed-in contracts and feeding into energy communities.

So if you have one of these feed-in contracts, please make sure you do not feed in grey power.

How to ensure this:
In the battery settings of the neoom App, you can specify whether you want to charge the battery from the grid and whether you want to feed power from the battery into the grid.

To avoid feeding in grey power, make sure the two switches "Charge battery from grid" and "Feed in from battery" are not active at the same time.

Frequently asked questions

  • I live in Germany and have an unsubsidized direct marketing tariff. Am I allowed to feed in grey power? In other direct marketing ("sonstige Direktvermarktung"), feeding in grey power is allowed. However, no market premium is paid in other direct marketing.
  • I live in Germany and use the flat-rate model. Am I allowed to feed in grey power? The flat-rate option under § 19 (3c) EEG allows systems up to 30 kWp to feed in up to 500 kWh at a subsidized tariff on a flat-rate basis. This also makes it possible to charge the battery from the grid and discharge grey power back into the grid.
  • What happens if I am not allowed to feed in grey power but have still activated both settings? In this case neoom Ai cannot guarantee that no grey power is fed in. However, it is very unlikely that neoom Ai charges the battery from the grid and also feeds power from the battery into the grid on the same day. Still, such cases cannot be ruled out on individual days.
